Article about Deities
Article about the Forces of Darkness, Chaos, and Death.
Writing this self-treatise on the Deities of Darkness was driven by many factors. Many people interested in Magic, including newcomers, have many questions about the Forces of Darkness, Chaos, and Death that are not clear to them. For example, "who is a certain Deity from the Slavic pantheon in Sumeria, Hellas (Ancient Greece), Scandinavia, etc. Why this one, etc." To clarify this situation, I raised all practically available sources describing the phenomena of Dark Forces among many peoples.
To write this article, I had to review not only the Enuma Elish but also conduct an analysis of other similar sources that tell us about Gods and Demons among other ethnic groups. All of this was done in order to draw parallels and see how Ancient Gods of Chaos and Their Progeny - Chthonic and Death Deities - were perceived and described by other peoples after the Sumerians.
Similarly, we will notice and compare in specific cases different descriptions of the "qualities and characteristics" of the same Deities, but again, among different ethnic groups. Why do different peoples, such as the Scandinavians, Greeks, Slavs, Egyptians, and others, did not converge in descriptions of the same Deity, not only compared to the Sumerians and Akkadians but even among themselves in their own traditions. Why sometimes the perception of the same Deities at a Subtle Level also does not coincide among Occult Practitioners. Why, for example, some, whether laypeople, researchers, or Practitioners, start paying attention to a certain Deity's "gender." And try to assert with 100% certainty that for example, "This Deity is of the female gender, and that one is of the male gender." Dispelling these myths and misconceptions from the very beginning, based on the Occult experience of several Practitioners who have many years of experience in this field, it is necessary to note the following assumptions on the issues of perceptions and "gender":
Deities are SUPER-INTELLIGENT and SUPER-POWERFUL BEINGS with SUPER-POWERS. There are NO barriers, impossibilities, time, space, physical matter, etc. for Them. They are capable of almost EVERYTHING. Their environment is the Abyss, Chaos, Other Spheres of existence. For Them, there is NO Death. Essentially, They are FORMLESS. A synonym for Them in the Occult realm is Forces of Darkness, Chaos, Death. They can definitely represent and embody certain elements, manifest them as well. They do not contact with everyone. To achieve direct contact with them - Practitioners spend YEARS of hard work on themselves and in this area.
Based on this, it follows that most descriptions of the feeling of Dark Forces and Chaos are extremely limited and illusory in the grand scheme of things. This is because, in publicly available sources, speculations by ordinary laypeople or priests with extremely mediocre connections to these Deities have been described. Why mediocre - yes, because those priests served exclusively to egregores, endowing them with "upright and good qualities" that laypeople worshipped and still worship all their lives. The Essence of the True Forces was practically inaccessible to them. And therefore, they declared the True Forces and Their manifestations as "Evil, harm, enemies of humanity," etc.
Returning to the topic of perceptions of Forces of Darkness, Chaos, and Death, particularly with Occult methods at a Subtle Level, let's make the first note on what should be initially paid attention to: Deities do not have a specific gender as such. They are either "hermaphroditic" (in essence) or DO NOT HAVE GENDER AT ALL. The analogy with a human in this case is extremely inappropriate. Because Divine "hermaphroditism" is a manifestation of HIGH DEVELOPMENT, PERFECTION, the ability to manifest oneself MULTI-DIMENSIONALLY, etc. And human hermaphroditism is deformity and pathology, alas. From the point of view of biology, zoology, and physiology, based just on the material world. Comparing a human and a Deity is like comparing dust and the Universe. There are some "animal hermaphrodites" in the physical world: Some worms, mollusks, etc. This is inherent in them by Nature. But this is already a different, and extremely "grounded sphere," and we will not delve into it.
The second main note is that: For example, being extremely small compared to someone of "gigantic proportions," and looking at this "giant - giant" from just one or maximum two to three sides, one has a very limited visual representation of this "giant - giant." For instance, approaching a whale from the tail gives one perspective of this animal. Approaching it from the head or the side presents different visual and physical perceptions. Stepping back and taking in the whole view brings one closer to a more complete understanding.
The same applies to the perception of Dark Forces, Chaos, and Death by Occult Practitioners at a Subtle Level. Some Practitioners see certain "qualities" of a specific Deity, others see different qualities, and so on. Only those Practitioners who make their Occult Work MORE GLOBAL in relation to specific Forces begin to see, perceive, and understand the MUCH GREATER ESSENCE of these Deities. In other words, they begin to see and understand deeper and more multifaceted "qualities" of the Forces they work with. Based on this Practical foundation, we will examine well-known and some lesser-known Deities of Darkness, Chaos, and Death described in the Sumerian-Akkadian tradition and draw some analogies and parallels with them under different "names" in other ethnic traditional writings.
APSU. (Abzu in Akkadian). According to Sumerian-Akkadian descriptions: The Primordial Deity, the "spouse" of Tiamat, embodied the fresh waters of Chaos, commanding them, representing them. Mixing his fresh waters of Chaos with the salty Chaotic waters of Tiamat gave birth to the first "lives" in Chaos. According to myths, he was "killed" by his children. Essentially, the Primordial Deity of Chaos represents inaccessible reserves of inhuman rage, closer to Earth - underground freshwaters, birth and Death as infinite processes. Does not come into "contact" with everyone. Form - like all Deities: Essentially FORMLESS. The playing "sequence of shapes" - a Huge formless mass, predatory animals - tiger, lion, leopard, snake, dragon, and so on.
In other traditions: Ymir among the Scandinavians. Description - In Germanic-Scandinavian mythology, the first living creature, an immense giant, from which the world was created. He originated from the ice of Elivagar, where warmth brought life. He was killed - sacrificed by his sons - the gods.
Tartarus among the Greeks (Hellenes). Brief summary: According to Hesiod, he emerged following Chaos and Gaia. According to Epimenides, born of Aether and Night. According to other authors, as the personification of this abyss, Tartarus was the son of Aether and Gea. From Tartarus, Gea gave birth to monsters. In general, a Deity derived from Chaos, embodying the Abyss.
Veles among the Slavs. According to one version: A Deity in the ancient Russian pagan pantheon, the "cattle god," patron of storytellers and poetry. According to the "main myth" theory - one of the central deities in Slavic mythology, the Snake - the antagonist of the Thunderer Perun. According to another version: One of the great Deities, the ruler of Dark Forces, their progenitor, Lord of all that grows and dies, embodying Death and birth, also bringing mass death of cattle, plagues, and so on.
TIAMAT. According to Sumerian-Akkadian writings: The Primordial Deity, largely similar to APSU (Abzu). In the history of religions: - the world ocean of salty chaos, from which everything (including the gods) was born in Sumerian-Babylonian mythology. According to the Sumerian-Akkadian cosmogonic epic "Enuma Elish," Tiamat mixed her waters with Abzu, thereby beginning the world. Tiamat was presumably depicted as a dragon or hydra. In the myth Enuma Elish, she was killed by young gods, split, and supposedly, the physical world was created from her remains of matter and flesh. Essentially, Tiamat is almost identical to APSU in all aspects. The "qualities," personification, and manifestation are practically identical. The only difference: Represents the salty waters of Chaos, unlike Abzu (freshwaters). The playing shapes are practically the same.
In other traditions: Gaia among the Greeks: The ancient Greek goddess of the Earth. Born after Chaos, she is the elder sister of Uranus, Tartarus, and Thalassa. Gaia is the mother of all that lives and grows on her, as well as the mother of the Sky, Sea, Titans, and Giants.
Nature - Mother of the Raw Earth among the Slavs: The Mother of the Raw Earth, a Deity of fertility and harvest, was considered sacred among the Slavic Rusichi. Another version suggests that She was revered as the Mother of all living beings in general. Who She is and what this Goddess represents, along with her primary qualities? In contrast to Celtic, Germanic-Scandinavian, Ancient Greek, Semitic, Sumerian-Akkadian, Assyrian, Ancient Egyptian, and other Ancient Pagan traditions, the Ruso-Slavic belief left very little information. According to Practical Occult research and conclusions: Here is an excerpt from Ancient Slavic spells: "MOTHER OF THE RAW EARTH, YOU HAVE SEEN ALL THE SORROWS, YOU HAVE SEEN ALL THE DEAD." This directly speaks to the close relationship this Deity has with the World of the Dead. Therefore, she is also the patroness of Necromancy. But these are FAR FROM all of Her capabilities and purposes, and not the most important. The earthly "qualities" of this Deity: the infinite cycle of "sleep and awakening" of Nature, lives, and Deaths, infinity and eternity in general.
ERESHKIGAL. In Sumerian-Akkadian texts: Ereshkigal (literally "great queen of the underworld") - in Sumerian-Akkadian mythology, the goddess, ruler of the underworld kingdom known as Irkalla. The elder sister and rival of Inanna, the goddess of love and fertility, and the wife of Nergal - the god of the underworld kingdom and the blazing sun. Sometimes also known as Irkalla, after the name of her kingdom (similar to Hel among the Scandinavians and Hecate among the Greeks). Essentially: A Goddess of Death, often involving the energies of Mars, Saturn, Pluto, and the Moon. Considered the Inflictor of Death, the Mistress of it, the Goddess of the Afterlife. Represents a solid stone fortress, Deadly cold, the Fire of Kura, Necrotic spheres, "Dead water," destruction of the living, patronage of Necromancy, Sorcery, and so on. Playing forms include formlessness, a form covered with a black veil, a huge black spider, a large black beast resembling a panther, exuding horror, and more.
In other traditions: Hel among the Scandinavians - Hel (Old Norse Hel) - in Germanic-Scandinavian mythology, the ruler of the realm of the dead (Helheim), daughter of the deceitful Loki and the giantess Angrboda, one of the three chthonic monsters.

According to Occult conclusions: Mara, Morana, Moriena - the Goddess of Death, Night, and Winter among the Slavs-Rusichi. This Goddess was revered as "Navia," meaning relating to the Navi (Underworld). Her glory has survived to our time in various incarnations, reflected in folk folklore and Occultism. Her images include "Kuma Death," "Mother Death," "Black Widow," the personification of "Death" itself.
Kali among the Hindus: Primarily Kali is a goddess of death, hence it is natural that she looks threatening. She is usually depicted as dark-skinned... Overall, she is a Goddess of destruction and Death, always portrayed with a sword and severed heads on a pile of bones.
SHUB NIGGURATH. Also known as KUSARIKKU. According to Sumerian-Akkadian myths: Half-goat, half-fish, and in other versions, a man-bull. He was part of the "Army of Tiamat," in the "Army of Monsters," created by the Mother Hubur to battle the "elder gods of order." He represents a formless massive entity endowed with animal essence, animal rage, fertility, the cycle of death and rebirth. Some practitioners believe that this Deity is the Black Goat of the Woods, representing a kind of "perverted fertility." According to Occult research and in the broader sense: Perverted fertility does not exist. Fertility is simply fertility. As for the "goat" aspect, it is so minimal that it is almost imperceptible. More prominent are the essences of predatory animals: the Boar-Razor, the Vampire Bat. His forms alternate between a "play of forms against formlessness": a huge jellyfish, spider, octopus, squid - mixing elements of all these forms. Like almost all Deities, he appears with countless Demons - offspring. He has a strong connection with forests, fields, meadows, vegetation, and the subterranean as well. His original beginning is Chaos.
In other traditions: PAN among the Greeks: According to the Homeric hymn, he was born with goat legs, a long beard, and horns, and started jumping and laughing immediately after birth. His unusual appearance and character frightened his mother, who abandoned him, but Hermes, wrapping him in hare skins, took him to Olympus and amused all the gods so much, especially Dionysus, with the sight and liveliness of his son, that the gods called him Pan, as he brought great joy to all (Greek: ???, "all").
He stole Zeus's sinews from Typhon. The oldest and most revered god among the Arcadians, known as Likessian. He pursues nymphs. The locals heard him playing the flute on Mount Menalon (Arcadia). He invented the flute-playing on Mount Nomia (Arcadia), where the place was known as Melpia. He helped the Athenians at Marathon; the Pan mountain is located in the Marathon plain. He sang the paean of Pindar between Cithaeron and Helicon. In the city of Saetta, a woman fell in love with him. For helping the gods, Pan became the constellation Capricorn.
To the Egyptians, he is the oldest god. When the gods were in Egypt, Pan commanded them to transform into animals, and he himself became a goat. Or he became half-goat, half-fish.
LYUTOBOR among the Slavs. According to unidentified sources but verified by Occult practitioners - a direct Descendant of Veles. Among the Mansi people, he is Shelyab (Winged Bear of the Woods): "The Winged bear Shelyab is mentioned in the mythology of many peoples as a host of evil spirits."

He frequently utilizes the energies of Pluto.
In other traditions: Thanatos among the Greeks. Very similar in essence and descriptions.
Among the Slavs - Niyan (Kosht, the God of Misfortune): Related to the planet Pluto, the element of Aether and Water, bringing Death, the exhaustion of the living, fulfilling the orders of the Dark God (Pifon, Ningishzida).

He only ascended above ground for business, or when he could not quell another romantic infatuation. Hades ruled alongside his wife Persephone (daughter of Zeus and Demeter), whom he abducted while she was picking flowers in a meadow. When he kidnapped Persephone, he appeared in a chariot drawn by a team of four horses. This myth is not mentioned by Homer and was localized in various places in the ancient world, especially in Eleusis and on the island of Sicily, where the abduction was believed to have taken place.
Among the Slavs: Viy, Vey. Related to Niyan (Kosh, the God of Misfortune), also directly related to the scorching wind, piercing burning gaze, underground scorching Yadro (Underground Sun), Judge of the Dead, Warlord of the Dark Gods. In His mighty hands, He holds the Fiery Whip, with which He "educates" sinners in the Underworld.
NINGISHZIDA (or NINGISHZIDA). In Sumerian mythology, a chthonic deity, son of the god of the underworld kingdom, Ninazu. Ningishzida was called the "Lord of the Sturdy Tree," possibly because the roots that support the existence of trees grow in the underworld. He guards evil demons banished to the underworld, the guardian of the heavenly gates of the god Anu. Gudea of Lagash chose him as his personal divine protector. Ningishzida was also revered in other cities. In Sumerian texts dedicated to Ur-Nammu, Ningishzida's wife is Azimua, among the Lagash gods, Geština. Ningishzida's symbol was a dragon, which Mesopotamian astronomers saw in the sky as one of the constellations.

Among the Slavs - Aspid. In Slavic mythology, the aspid is a monstrous winged serpent with a bird-like nose and two trunks, its wings are speckled and shimmer like gemstones. According to other legends, the monster is pitch black. Hence the expression "aspid-black color." The aspid is named as such because its bite injects (spar-gat) venom; the Greeks call venom ios (as), hence the name aspis, as it kills with a venomous bite.
Wherever it takes flight, it lays waste to those places; it lives in the mountains and never lands on the ground, only on stones. It moves with the speed of lightning, and hot steam continuously emanates from its mouth. If it bites, a person swells up and putrefies alive. Rybakov - the patron of seeds and roots, guardian of vegetation, identified by B. A. Rybakov with the god Pereplut. B. A. Rybakov’s opinion is consistently contradicted by researcher M. A. Vasiliev, according to whom, the god Semargl represented an ornithomorphic embodiment of Saena-Simurgh, penetrating the Slavs through Alan-Sarmatian intermediation.
NYARLATHOTEP. Deity - Messenger of the Ancients. Represents the transmission of information to the Priests of the Ancients from Deities and Demons. Formless, playing with images of "rocks-pyramids" and an otherworldly monster. Also known as: Creeping Chaos.
Under the name Aiwass, he is mentioned in Thelema. Aiwass is a superhuman entity revered in Thelema. According to Crowley, it was Aiwass who dictated to him The Book of the Law over three days from April 8 to 10, 1904, in Cairo. There is likely a Demonic Entity with the name "Aiwass" in the Goetia, from where Aleister Crowley himself took this name.
As we have all noticed: Some "marriages" between Deities and their "offspring" are nothing more than myths and speculations. Some shared actions of two Deities were erroneously interpreted by laypeople and the ill-informed as "marital relations." Just as "wars, battles between Gods." There has never been any "battle of the gods." All major gods are simply - nothing more than egregores, created by humans and their "priests." There is Chaos, there is the Abyss - Its threshold. Chaos is LIMITLESS, and the Deities - Forces emerging from it are INFINITE and COUNTLESS. And yet - PERFECT in their Development. It is quite evident that by interacting once again with Primordial Chaos, They are able to "continue themselves through Progeny." This leads to certain conclusions - there are ANCIENT Primordial Gods of Chaos, and Chthonic Deities of Death and Kur (Navi) - are THEIR DESCENDANTS.
These are Occult Practical conclusions, compared with historical folk epics about the creation of the world. To unfold more precise and accurate information on this issue, "erasing the boundaries of this world and the Other" is not even possible for the "Mastery Practitioners." It seems that such knowledge is NOT FULLY accessible to earthly reason. The most important thing is that the general visibility of this "picture" has been more or less revealed.

He represents a formless massive entity endowed with animal essence, animal rage, fertility, the cycle of death and rebirth.
When he kidnapped Persephone, he appeared in a chariot drawn by a team of four horses.
